Max Restaurant * East Village

The popular, can be a wait at prime feeding time, Max Restaurant in the East Village is serving good inexpensive Italian comfort food in cozy charming digs. It may be among the best Italian restaurants - cheap or not in NYC.  Seating in front and behind the kitchen and the outdoor patio with wash hanging on lines. We had very good meals here. The service was attentive, efficient and came with a cheeky waiter - as in "What makes the Special Gnocchi on the board different from the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina on the menu." - "It's special." Well, Danny went right ahead and got the special one on the board after coaxing more details about it's special cheesiness. He raved with the first mouthful. Roxanne loved the Rigatoni Alla Siciliana and thought it was special. The bread, salad and wine were pretty special too.
